Depression happens when there is a loss of self-esteem or the loss of hope for something. People suffer from severe depression after a break-up because partly there is a loss in their need for gratification [a narcissistic gratification]. They feel that they have lost their existence.
Because people are afraid of this loss – they become jealous. Jealousy does not correspond to the intensity of love. It corresponds to the NEED of BEING LOVED. S/he are normally people incapable of loving another. Often after a loss, a jealous person needs an immediate substitute [another person or drugs, alcohol…]. They project their jealousy, for example, thinking that their partner may be looking at somewhere else when in fact it is their own behavior of constantly seeking out a substitute.
